Short Circuit Calculations made easy with SCA V1.0 software
Dear Lady or Gentelman,

Arc Flash Newsletter is a quick update on arc flash issues and ARCAD solutions addressing these issues. This newsletter is free and will bring you up to date on the issues that surround arc flash and short circuit analysis. Visit us at www.arcadvisor.com for complete product offerings including free online arc flash, short circuit calculators, and PC-based software solutions for short-circuit, arc flash hazard analysis and labeling.

Short circuit calculations using SCA V1.0 software
The example below explains how to build single line diagram of power distribution system using Short-Circuit-Analytic version 1.0 software program, perform short circuit analysis and document the results.

STEP 1: Develop Single Line Diagram and Populate it with the Equipment Data.
Launch SCA V1.0. New project screen will open up.

Develop a comprehensive single-line radial diagram of the power system being analised. It is recommended that you use a copy of the same one-line diagram which is applied when laying out the distribution system. This approach provides the most complete system. Lets use single line diagram represented on Figure 2 below for our example.

New NFPA 70E 2012 Arc Flash Label Requirements
Previous edition of NFPA 70E from year 2009 required that labels to display either the available incident energy or the minimum arc flash rating for the Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Also, every arc flash warning label had to list the system voltage, arc flash boundary, equipment identification and the date of the arc flash analysis listed on it.

Dear Lady or Gentelman,

Arc flash analysis in DC power systems
Direct current (DC) arcing fault incident energy calculations are presented to assess the level of risk involved when working around high current DC apparatus. The proposed procedure allows evaluation of incident energy and arc flash boundaries, while taking into account as many circuit parameters as possible. These parameters include fixed or variable gap length, system voltage, available fault current, equipment configuration, circuit time constant and evaluated threshold energy for a second degree burn. The material was recently published in November/December 2012 issue of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) magazine.

ARCAD, INC. has recently released DC ARC FLASH ANALYTICsoftware program (DCAFA V2.0) built upon the generalized procedure proposed in the IAEI paper.

SHORT-CIRCUIT-ANALYTIC V1.0
ARCAD INC. has recently announced the release of new short circuit calculations software. Short-Circuit-Analytic (SCA) software enables  you to calculate the short-circuit currents in a 3-phase radial system you are working with. The program takes into consideration electrical parameters of the power supply as well as the power distribution system including utility, cables, bus ducts, transformers, generators, motors etc. SCA software program automatically converts the entire system into a unique impedance unit from which the short circuit current at each and every point is calculated. The process is simple, efficient and will save you both money and time.

We offer money-saving bundles of programs. If you bundle Short Circuit Analytic (SCA V1.0) with one of ARCAD arc flash software programs you will pay less than purchasing the software separately.

ARCAD INC. introduces weekly webinars
We are very excited to offer free online seminars providing you and your company with education and information on ARCAD software and services for arc flash analysis and labeling. For a limited time, ARCAD webinars are offered for free.
